Understanding the various parts of your furnace is the first step toward taking care of your system well. The blower motor is the heart of your furnace and works to pump warm air throughout your house in the winter. In an upflow furnace, it’s on the bottom half and is located behind your control board. It’s a large cylinder and has three main parts to it:

  1. Blower Capacitor
  2. Motor
  3. Fan Blade

Any of those parts can go out, resulting in a motor that doesn’t blow air. In those cases, you will most likely need to either replace the specific part, or replace the whole thing.

As we always mention, the best way to take care of your blower motor is to change your air filter consistently. The air filter is located right next to it, so if it’s clogged and dirty, the blower motor will have to work harder to move air. Changing your air filter is the best thing you can do to prevent failure of the blower motor.
