The Homesense Tune-Up Process

By: Griff Housemeyer  |  November 16, 2021

Like any mechanical system, your HVAC system breaks down over time and needs consistent tune-ups. A tune-up, like an oil change for your car, can help ensure that your systems run longer and smoother. This saves you time, money, and (hopefully) stress. As we’ve outlined in our comprehensive Maintenance Guide, getting seasonal tune-ups on your system is the best thing you can do as a homeowner for your furnace and AC. If you choose to not get tune-ups, there’s a very good chance you’ll run into more expensive repairs sooner.

The Homesense Way

You can trust Homesense to provide you with the best tune-up experience. Our focus on top-notch-customer experience, coupled with the industry expertise among our service technicians, means you’ll get the best value possible.

We’ll talk more about the various ways you can get a tune-up on your system below. For now, the best starting point is to schedule an appointment online or call us at 317-670-0171. Once you have an appointment, you’ll receive helpful notifications and a bio of the technician coming to your home.

Our EPA-certified technician will then visit your home to inspect and prepare your cooling or heating (depending on the season) for the harsh conditions of summer or winter.

In just 45-90 minutes, we’ll thoroughly clean and inspect your system from all angles, while completing the following checklists:

FURNACE SYSTEM TUNE-UP

  • Check thermostat
  • Check filter
  • Check amp and volt draw on motors
  • Check electrical connections
  • Check for gas leaks
  • Check for temperature rise
  • Test cycle for proper operations
  • Visually inspect heat exchanger for cracks
  • Check fan control
  • Check furnace safety controls
  • Check and clean burners
  • Check ignition system
  • Check gas valve operation and pressure
  • Check sequencer operation
  • Check breaker and SSU safety shut off
  • Check reversing valve operation
  • Check defrost control
  • Provide repair recommendations

AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM TUNE-UP

  • Check thermostat
  • Check filter
  • Check amp and volt draw on motors
  • Check electrical connections
  • Check for temperature drop
  • Test cycle for proper operation
  • Check and clean outdoor coil
  • Check and adjust air flow
  • Check condenser drain line
  • Check all capacitors
  • Check contractor and electrical controls
  • Check compressor terminals
  • Check disconnect power box
  • Inspect evaporator coil when accessible
  • Provide repair recommendations

Once your technician finishes this checklist, they will give you a quick summary of their work alongside any repair recommendations, if necessary. Hopefully if you’ve been getting consistent tune-ups there won’t be any surprise repairs needed!

Preventative Maintenance Program

The best way to get consistent tune-ups done on your system is to join our Preventative Maintenance Program. This is an annual $99 membership that extends the life of your entire heating and cooling system and keeps your utility costs low. By being a member with us, we’ll remind you when it’s time to schedule an appointment. We’ll also give you an opportunity to renew while your technician is on-site every year.

As part of the program, you secure two service appointments – one in the spring and one in the fall, as well as:

  • 1-year warranty on parts and labor for all repairs (non-members 30 days)
  • 10% discounts on repairs and diagnostic/trip charges
  • 10% discount on indoor air quality products
  • Maintain factory warranty, as required by most manufacturers

One-Time Tune-Up

If you are not quite ready to become a member or know you’ll be moving soon, you can always simply set up a one-time tune-up appointment with us in any season. This is a great way to get a quick pulse on your system to see if any repairs are needed. Simply let us know in the online scheduler or while on the phone with us that you’d like to do a one-time tune-up. We normally provide special deals for these in the spring and fall, so keep a lookout for those!
