One of the questions our HVAC experts get asked all the time is, “why is my master bedroom so hot.”

Q. My master bedroom is so hot. How can I make the temperature more comfortable?

It’s a super important question. Between sleeping, reading, and getting ready for our days, we spend a lot of time in our master suites. Being uncomfortable in your room because it’s too hot or too cold can have some pretty dramatic effects on your lifestyle, especially if it’s causing you to lose sleep.

A. Consider installing a ductless mini-split.

Every house is different, and there are a lot of solutions available, but one of the best solutions is becoming more affordable and more popular. It’s called a ductless mini-split, and it’s making many of our friends very happy.

Ductless Air Conditioning, Ductless Heating — How it works

A ductless mini-split is a separate heating and cooling system from the one servicing the rest of your home. It’s mini, or small, so it can be used to condition just one space, it’s ductless so that the installation is easy and efficient, and it’s a split system, so you don’t have to use window space or cut a large opening in the wall. They are among the quietest, efficient, and comfortable systems in the world.

In general, a master bedroom will be connected to your home’s existing central heating and cooling systems, however, there are a lot of factors that can make the room less comfortable than others. It’s probably larger than the other bedrooms in your home, and it may have more windows, higher ceilings, and more outside walls. Often the room has the same number of registers and the other bedrooms in your home, but there are two people usually living in the master. Since each person gives off about 400 BTU’s per hour, this can affect the temperature of the room.

A ductless mini-split for a master bedroom will generally remain turned off while the room is unoccupied. When you go to your room, simply pick up the remote and turn on the warm or cool air, and your bedroom will quickly change to the temperature you desire.  It will quietly keep the room that temperature until you are ready to go, then just hit the off button on your remote.

There are different size and type of ductless mini-split systems for various applications. Our process starts with a conversation with you to discover your needs. We then perform a survey of your home to determine how best to apply and install the correct solution. Once complete, we’ll present the recommended solution in a professional format for your consideration. Upon your authorization, most of these systems can be installed in one day, 6-8 hours of work.

How much do ductless mini-splits cost?

The prices can vary quite a bit depending on size. The most significant factors on price are the efficiency and features included with your new mini-split. Entry-level systems can be installed for around $2,500. Top of the line systems can easily be double that price.
