HVAC Rebates In The Indianapolis Area

By: Brian Schutt  |  September 21, 2012

homesenseFor a number of years the Federal Government spurred on investment in high efficiency HVAC equipment through a sizable tax credit. However, since the end of 2011 only geothermal equipment receives the big tax credit, so local utilities have taken on the task of incentivizing homeowners to consider the higher efficiency equipment.

In Indianapolis, homeowners have a number of great options to assist with the higher prices that the more efficient systems demand. To help our current and future customers, we’ve put together a comprehensive list of local rebates, depending on your provider.

Citizens Gas Rebates

For natural gas furnaces with an AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) of 95% or greater, Citizens offers $250. In addition, if it’s paired with a programmable thermostat, you can received an additional $20.

The form required will ask for model/serial number of old and new systems, date of installation, and must be submitted within 60 days of install.

Indianapolis Power and Light (IPL) Rebates

At IPL, there are options depending on if your home has a heat pump or a traditional air conditioning system. For heat pumps paired with an ECM blower on your indoor system, a system efficiency of 15 SEER, = 8.2 HSPF, = 12.5 EER is eligible for a $200 reward, while a system with efficiency of 16 SEER, = 9.0 HSPF, = 12.5 EER is eligible for a $300 reward.

For an air conditioner paired with an ECM blower, a system efficiency of = 14.5 and 12.5 EER is eligible for a $300 reward. While a system with efficiency of = 16 and = 13.0 EER is eligible for a $400 reward.

This current program is available until December 31, 2012, must have application form signed by contractor and submitted within 90 days of installation. Within the application, you will have to provide an itemized invoice that includes model and serial number, AHRI reference number, and manufacturers specs of the system.

Duke Energy Rebates

For an HVAC Install, which is defined as an air conditioner or heat pump, customers are eligible for a $200 rebate. To be eligible, the heat pump must be 14 SEER or greater and paired with an ECM blower in the indoor system.  For an air conditioner to be eligible, it also must be paired with an ECM blower and be 14 SEER or greater.

Like the other rebates, you will need system model and serial numbers, and it must be completed within 90 days of installation.

Vectren HVAC Rebates

Vectren offers a variety of rebates for both heating and cooling. On the heating side, a natural gas furnace with an AFUE of 92% to 95% is eligible for a $150 rebate, while a furnace with an AFUE of 95% or greater is eligible for a $275 rebate.  Heat pumps with a SEER rating of 16 or greater are eligible for $400, only if natural gas is not available to the property. For a traditional air conditioner, systems that are 16 SEER or greater are eligible for $300. And finally, an ECM motor itself is eligible for a $60 rebate.

Like the above rebates, you will need to know your model and serial number, and the application must be done within 60 days of installation.
